We are pleased to offer return
transportation service from Kenosha to both Hammond
and downtown Chicago the same day after the end
of the event for you, your bicycle, and
your baggage!
This transportation service
is the perfect option for participants
from the city, areas served by public transportation
from downtown, and areas south of the city
such as Indiana and
the south
Chicago
suburbs.
You can also park your car for free during
the event in Hammond!

Other than Chicago, there will not be any mid-route
stops as part of this transportation service
such as at our rest stop locations.
We can only guarantee that we will have space on
our vehicles to transport you and your bicycle from
Kenosha if you register for our return transportation
service during regular registration and we absolutely
cannot guarantee that spaces will be available the
day of the event. If any spaces are available we
will gladly sell them to you (including a late
registration
fee) subject to availability.
After you arrive at the ending location it may be
a little while before we are ready to depart and
we encourage you to spend the time taking a shower
and getting cleaned up, going swimming in the pool
or relaxing in the whirlpool, or getting something
to eat or drink at the ending location at the Kenosha
hotel.

the amenities available at the Kenosha hotel.
Taking the Metra Train from Kenosha
We STRONGLY discourage
you taking the Metra train from Kenosha for overwhelming
logistical constraints.

Kenosha Transportation
Staging Point
The staging point for the return transportation
service from Kenosha will be directly at the ending
location.
- Click
Here for more information about
the Ending Location.
All
participants must be ready to depart Kenosha
transportation staging point when the route
closes at 6:30 pm.
PLEASE
BE READY TO DEPART BY 6:30 PM AT THE LATEST AND DO
NOT BE LATE. OTHER PEOPLE WILL BE DEPENDING
ON YOU. IF YOU ARE LATE WE CAN NOT WAIT FOR YOU.
Because of our strict no man left behind policy
we will not depart Kenosha until the last participants
have arrived safely
at
the ending
location. Generally we plan on departing Kenosha
shortly after the route closes at 6:30 pm, although
it is possible that may depart earlier or later than
that depending on when all participants have
safely arrived.
Bathrooms
will not be available in any vehicle so you will
need to use the restroom in Kenosha before you
leave.
Transportation Means
People Transportation
Participants will travel either aboard a charter
school bus or in one of our support vehicles. We
will not be using any public transportation
carriers (Amtrak, Greyhound, MegaBus, Metra, etc.)
to transport people and you will not need to purchase
any separate bus or train ticket on your own.

Here for more information about our people
transportation means.

Here for more information
about our support vehicles.
Bicycle Transportation
We will transport your bicycle ourselves.
- Click
Here for more information about
our bicycle transportation means.
All vehicles will travel together
so your bicycle will be available for you to pick
up
immediately after we arrive. Baggage Transportation
All participants will carry their baggage with
them. If you brought a personal bag with you
during the event, you will
need to carry it with you yourself on your bike from
the transportation staging point. We recommend using
panniers or a small backpack since it may not be easy
to carry
another type of bag such as a duffel bag while riding
on your bike.

baggage transportation means.
Arrival in Chicago
Getting dropped off in downtown Chicago is
the perfect option for people who did not drive to
the starting location.
We expect
the trip from Kenosha to downtown Chicago to
take approximately an hour and a half.
|
The
transportation service staging point will
be behind our supported hotel at the northeast
corner
of E. Harrison St. and S. Wabash Ave. This
is very
close to all CTA L trains which you can easily
use to transport both you and your bike to
and from all other public transportation
options in downtown Chicago. This also easily
accomodates our participants staying at the
hotel that night, particularly ones who will
be using our transportation service from
Chicago the next day for Bicycle Illinois
and who would have to transport large bags.
There
is a very wide marked off area on the street
to load and unload bicycles and typically
has little or no traffic or parked cars and
avoids the hustle and bustle of the main
hotel entrance on Michigan Ave.

Participants Who
Parked in Chicago
If you parked your car
at Dusable
Harbor
for the day, you will need to walk
or bike there from the hotel yourself.
Directions and a map will be provided.
Unfortunately
we will not be able to drop participants off directly
at the parking lot because we can't quickly or easily
get to or from it with our vehicles. Not only would
we have
to drive down Randolph St. across the entire downtown since
we can't drive our school busses or trucks on Lake
Shore Drive, but it is almost imposible to turn these
vehicles around in the
cul-du-sac at
the end of Randolph St.
Arrival
in Hammond
The staging point for Hammond will be directly at the event starting location.
