Bicycle Transportation Service
We will have two separate bicycle moving
crews to transport bicycles - one for our standard bicycle transportation
service and one fo our premium bicycle transportation
service both before the start
and after the
end of
RAGBRAI.
Standard
Bicycle Transportation Service
For our standard bicycle transportation service
you will drop off your bike with us on the Friday before
the start of RAGBRAI
as part of our pre-event bicycle drop off service and/or pick it
up on the Sunday after the end of RAGBRAI as part
of our post-event
bicycle pick up service.

The staging point for our standard bicycle transportation service in Chicago
will be at the Goose Island Brewery. We will have a large private,
indoor space there where we can securely store
bicycles
overnight after the
end of RAGBRAI and avoid weather issues such as rain and wind
unlike staging outdoors at
the Chicago hotel.

There are a few limitations to our standard bicycle transportation service:
- Bicycles can only be dropped off and picked up during the hours listed.
- Pre-registration is required so we can know who to expect, load bikes
in the proper order for unloading, and won't overbook or miss anyone who
is depending on us.
- You can only drop off and pick up your bicycle at our standard bicycle
transportation service staging point at Goose Island Brewery and not at
any other location such as the parking garage or Chicago hotel.
- We may not be able to handle all bicycles that require special handling
and care (recumbents, e-bikes, tandems, etc.) and DEFINTELY NOT without
prior registration.

Please note that we will only transport bicycles and not any baggage
as part of our standard bicycle transportation service. This is because there
is only enough room on our bicycle moving trucks to transport bicycles
and not any additional baggage. Accordingly, all baggage must be transported
in the compartments underneath the coach busses.
It may be a LOT easier and much more convenient for you to use our standard
bicycle transportation service. You will be able travel without the hassle
of transporting your bike and all your baggage all at the same time and it
may be much easier to use public transportation, have friends or
family give you a ride, or drop off and/or pick up your bicycle separately
particularly
if you work downtown. You will also be able to immediately pick up your bike
after the oach bus arrives and won't need to wait for our premium bicycle
transportation crew to arrive after
our coach
busses
arrive
(see
below) and
you won't have to receive your bike among the throng of other participants
eager to get on their way.
We strongly, strongly prefer that you use our standard bicycle
transportation service. Doing
so helps assure a much, much quicker departure time for everyone
by significantly shifting and spreading out the time it takes
to check you in and prepare and load your bicycle which helps to assure timely
arrival and departure times, minimizes staff wear and tear, and allows significantly
more time to overcome any problems that might come up on the road. Accordingly,
our standard bicycle transportation
services is included with all registrations and there will be no additional
fee.
Premium Bicycle Transportation Service
As part of our premium bicycle transportation service you will drop
off your bike with us on the Saturday
morning before the start of RAGBRAI and/or pick it up on the Saturday
evening after the end of RAGBRAI.

The staging point for our premium bicycle transportation service will be
directly at the Chicago hotel.

Since the staging
point for both of our premium bicycle transportation services are on the
same day at the same location as our coach bus staging point at the
Chicago
hotel you will not
need to also go to the Goose Island Brewery
in
Chicago
on a different
day.
However, you
will
almost
definitely
need to wait for your bicycle to arrive after the coach busses do since
our bicycle moving trucks travel much slower than the coach busses and
also must stop
much more frequently to get fuel. The more bikes we need to transport
as part of our premium
bicycle transporation service the longer
you may have to wait, in addition to the longer
the travel distance distance from Chicago. In addition, we will need to
drop off all bicycles at the Pork Belly's camping location first before coming
over to our transportation staging point in the RAGBRAI starting town. While
we cannot make any guarantees about our expected arrival time, however you

Because of the significant overall logistic benefits of
our standard bicycle transportation service provides, there will be an additional
fee each way for our premium bicycle transportation service. There
will not
be any
additional
fees
for our premium bicycle transportation service for postponed participants
from 2020, but we would still REALLY appreciate it if you could use our standard
bicycle transportation service instead! |
