If you will be travelling to or from Chicago
aboard a long distance public transportation
carrier, we strongly recommend shipping
your bike separately instead of transporting
it with you aboard yourself. This is
because your
bike must be boxed and assembled/disassembled anyways since every
long distance public transportation carrier requires
your bicycle to be boxed and transported
aboard as a piece of checked baggage (except for
a very limited number of Amtrak trains).

There are two options for shipping your bike to
the start or from the end of RAGBRAI through one
of RAGBRAI's officially
sanctioned bike shipping
companies or through us through Chicago.
To
the Start and/or From the End of RAGBRAI
By far, the best way to ship your bike is directly
to the start and/or from
the
end
of RAGBRAI.
If
you decide that this is the better option for you
we also offer the option to transport
just you and your baggage (and not
your bicycle) at a discounted rate!

Through
Us Through Chicago
You can ship your bicycle through our mechanic,
have him assemble/disassemble it, and then have us
transport it as part of our regular transportation
service.
We strongly recommend shipping your bike
through our mechanic rather than shipping it directly
to the start and/or from the end of RAGBRAI. Many,
many fewer people will be shipping their bike through
our mechanic than the hundreds of other people
shipping their bike through RAGBRAI's bike shipping
companies, so you will be able to get much more
personalized service and attention and have any
questions or issues addressed much more quickly
and easily. Your bike will also be available immediately
when we drop you off at the start of RAGBRAI rather
than having to go and find it to pick it up amidst
the mass confusion of the RAGBRAI bike expo.
You also won't run the risk of it not being ready
or not properly reassembled when you arrive. There
is no better way to be absolutely positive your
bike will be ready to ride at the start of RAGBRAI
than shipping it through our mechanic!

Bicycle Shipping Containers
We can only accept cardboard boxes that fold
completely flat as your bicycle shipping container
for our RAGBRAI transportation service. This is
because we cannot store any item in Chicago during
the week of RAGBRAI itself and we can transport
and store flat cardboard boxes on the floor of
our vehicles.
We cannot accept any other type of
bicycle shipping container and with absolutely
no exceptions because we cannot guarantee that
there will enough room to transport or store them
in one of our vehicles or in the baggage compartment
underneath the coach bus and we cannot leave it
in Chicago.
If you must ship your bike with a bicycle shipping
container other than a cardboard box you will need
to make arrangements to keep it somewhere in Chicago
yourself, such as at the Chicago hotel if you will
be staying there.
