Riding to Whiting
the Morning of the Event
Taking
the CTA Red Line train
to the 95th/Dan Ryan St. CTA L Train Station and
riding from there to the Whiting starting
location is your best option if you do want to drive.
This option gives you
the most amount of time to arrive at the start without
riding in the
dark, fully
assembled bicycles are allowed on the train at no
extra charge at all times on the weekends, the trains
run 24 hours, and the fare is only $2.25.

All participants riding from the 95th/Dan Ryan St.
CTA L Train Station the morning of the event
must arrive at the starting
location by 7:00 am in order
to check in, drop off their personal bag, replenish
themselves at the rest stop, and prepare for the
rest of the ride. The ride from the 95th/Dan Ryan CTA L Train Station to the starting location is 10.4
miles so you must
be able to ride at least 10 mph in order to arrive
at the starting location on time. If you are uncertain
about whether you will be able to maintain this pace
you should not plan on riding to the start the day
of the event. Instead, you should stay at the Hammond
hotel the day before the event, find another way
to get to the starting location the morning of the
event, or plan on starting your ride from Chicago.

Group
Ride
to the Starting Location
We will be coordinating a group ride to the starting
location from the 95th/Dan Ryan St. CTA L Train
Station
that will leave promptly at
6:00 am. There is no extra charge
to
participate
in this ride
but you will need to register for
it so that we can expect you. The group will
be supported by both a lead rider who will guide
the group and a designated last "sweep" rider
who will help address any problems that might come
up.
If you arrive late the group absolutely cannot wait
for you since other riders must still arrive at the
starting location on time. We strongly recommend
planning to arriving at the 95th/Dan Ryan CTA L
Train Station by 5:30 am in order to account for
any unforeseen problems getting there in time for
the group departure.
