RAIL South will travel approximately
165 miles in one day from St. Louis, MO to Vincennes,
IN.
The event will always occur on the Saturday on or
after June 21st, the longest day of the year.
Most participants will only
have to take time off from work on the Friday
before the event in order to travel to the
start of the event. From our experience this is easiest
to do on a Friday during the summertime anyways.
All cycling will occur on
Saturday. There will be less traffic than weekdays
(particularly from businesses
and schools) and also less of a rush hour. Riding
on Saturday will also allows you to recover and/or
travel back home on Sunday so you can be back to
work on Monday.
Because St. Louis and Chicago
are on Central Daylight Time (CDT) and Vincennes
is on Eastern Standard Time (EDT), all
specific times in the RAIL South event are indicated
as either CDT or EDT as appropriate. The different
time zones
do
not affect the actual duration
of any ride services, such as rest stop open and
close times.
