Bicycle Transportation
Fully assembled bicycles are permitted on a first come first
serve basis on all weekend trains, and on all weekday trains
arriving in Chicago before 6:30
am and after 9:30 am and
leaving Chicago before
3:00
pm
and after 7:00 pm.
Please be aware that there is no guarantee that space will
be available
for your bike on any train. Due to increased ridership there
is also an increased likelihood that bicycles cannot be
accommodated during the following
events:
Bicycles
must be secured with bungee cords or other devices supplied
by the cyclist. The conductors are VERY
strict
about
all bikes being secured and neither we nor the train
conductors can lend you bungee cords. If you are planning
on transporting your bicycle aboard a Metra train, or
even think you might, we strongly recommend
carrying
a
couple bungee cords with you
on your
bicycle at all times just
in case. Otherwise if you forget to bring bungee cords with
you we will have bungee cords available for sale
at our rest stop locations.

Bicycle Limits Aboard Each Metra Train
You can't ever be guaranteed a space to carry your bicycle
on any Metra train and if you plan on doing so you do so
entirely at your own risk. When bicycles are allowed, there
are only a limited number of first come first serve spaces
available and bikes are transported in the areas reserved
for disabled passengers. If a disabled passenger boards the
train they have priority and your bike may get kicked off
and Metra conductors are very strict about enforcing these
rules. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to eliminate
this risk, and we will not coordinate the number of bicycles
our participants bring onto the train.
It has never been a problem for anyone to rely on a Metra
train to arrive at or depart from our events with their bicycle
on a individual basis. All of our participants
travel on a wide range of Metra train lines at many different
times
in addition to driving, getting dropped off, CTA L trains,
etc. and as a result we stay well within the bicycle limits
on each Metra train.
However, there is an enormous risk
to relying on a specific Metra train to transport your
bicycle when you will be travelling
with many other participants of the event because
every other participant will also need to transport their
bicycle
with them. It's also very possible that someone not participating
in the event will want to put their bicycle on the train
as well. As a result the bicycle limits on each train can
quickly be exceeded and participants who arrive later will
not be able to carry their bicycle with them aboard the train.
If you cannot bring your bike with you onto the train we
cannot guarantee that we will still be able to transport
you ourselves as part of any of our transportation services.
If you are not willing to risk not having a space for your
bicycle on the Metra train then you should register for our
one of our transportation services. We guarantee that space
will be available for your bike as long as you register for
before our regular registration deadline.
