GPS Device Support Services

Paper Cue Sheets and Maps
GPS devices are a supplementary navigational means, and we will never rely on as our only means. Paper cue sheets and maps for all routes will still remain our primary means of navigation and will be provided to all participants. You MUST carry all paper cue sheets and maps with you on the road so you will still be able navigate the route in case any GPS device fails to operate properly during the event.

GPS Support Services Before the Event

  • Handlebar mounting
  • Device Settings
  • Map Card (GPS units only)
  • GPX Viewer App download (smartphones only)
  • Importing our route dataset files
  • GPS device operation

We will be relying on you to set up and practice using your personal GPS device yourself before the event.

GPS Support Services During the Event
Relatively short battery lives can be a major issue with GPS devices. By far the most common way a device will fail on the road is simply running out of power and is best prevented through proper personal planning beforehand.

  • Click Here for more information about personal preparation before the event for GPS devices.
  • Click Here for more information about personal electronic device power.

If your GPS device runs low or out of power on the road, you will be able to charge it as long as you need to at any rest stop location that has operational electrical outlets.

  • Click Here for more information about on road support for personal electronic devices.

Due to the myriad of different GPS devices available, the importance of personal preparation before the event, all the other things we will have going on during the event, and the fact that navigating with GPS devices is a secondary means of navigation, we can only guarantee that we will be able to support our own GPS units that we provide to participants during the event itself and our only on road support for all GPS devices can only consist of power charging at our rest stop locations. Our GPS units will only be available as spares for participants who are not riding with their own supported GPS device when we use GPS devices instead of signage. We cannot provide support for problems caused by factors beyond our control or lack of personal preparation including:

  • Weak or lost satellite or cell phone signal reception
  • Physical damage
  • Inoperable devices
  • Lost or stolen devices
  • Initial set up of the device's settings
  • Importing the route dataset files into your GPS device
  • Handlebar mounting (except minor handlebar mount adjustments)
  • Device operation
