Bicycle Shipments To and From the Supporting Bike Shops

If you prefer to have your bike boxed and shipped to or from any of our stopping towns instead of transporting it with you, all of our supporting bike shops can help you arrange these services. Specific information about bicycle shipments to and from our supporting bike shop in each stopping town will be listed under the infowrmation for that bike shop.

If you will be travelling to the start of the event by air or Greyhound bus, your bike must be boxed to be carried with you. Since would already have to box your bike anyways, we recommend saving yourself the hassle of carrying your bike with and ship it directly to or from the supporting bike shop in the stopping town you will be arriving at or departing from.

You will need to coordinate and pay for all shipping arrangements on your own with the supporting bike shop and the shipment carrier. We are providing the information regarding bicycle shipments for reference only and will not be responsible for individual bicycle shipment arrangements. It will also be your own responsibility to pick up/drop off your bicycle at the supporting bike shop in each town.

Specific information about bicycle shipments to and from our supporting bike shop in each stopping town will be listed under the information for that bike shop.

Bicycles Shipped Into Our Supporting Bike Shop Before the Start of Our Event
Call the bike shop and talk to the repair department to schedule a boxed bicycle build.

Arrange to have your bicycle arrive at the bike shop at least one week before the start of our event so that the bike shop has at least a week to assemble it. Don't forget to take into account the transit time from your local bike shop so that your boxed bicycle arrives at the bike shop at least one week before the start of our event.

Bicycles Shipped Out of Our Supporting Bike Shop After the End of Our Event
Call the bike shop and talk to the repair department to schedule a bicycle disassembly and boxing. You should verify whether or not you need to provide a shipping box, but most bike shops will provide one for you as part of the disassembly and boxing service fee.

Depending on their schedule, it can take up to a week to disassemble and ship out your bicycle. This does not include the transit time to your local shop.

You will need to provide your own shipping documents and shipping label. Neither the bike shop nor we will coordinate or pay for individual shipping arrangements. You will also need to call the bike shop and coordinate the specific shipping procedures directly with them.

Packaging
Put your name, address, and "BICYCLE ILLINOIS" in big bold letters with a permanent marker both on the outside of your shipping container and on a piece of masking tape on your bicycle frame itself to make it easier for the bike shop to easily identify your bicycle. Do not have just the name of the local bike shop from which you shipped the bicycle on the box or no identification on your bike itself. If the bike shop receives many unidentified boxed bicycles with no names or other identification they can have a very hard time identifying which bike is yours, which only adds to the risk of not having your bicycle ready to be picked up on time.

Shipping Arrangements
Arrange to have your bicycle arrive at the bike shop at least one week before the start of our event so that the bike shop has at least a week to assemble it. Don't forget to take into account the transit time from your local bike shop so that your boxed bicycle arrives at the bike shop at least one week before the start of our event.

When you are making shipping arrangements, be sure to also account for the transit time from the bike shop you will ship your bike from to the bike shop in our stopping town so that your bike arrives in plenty of time for the bike shop to build it up and have it ready for you when you arrive.

You will need to provide your own shipping documents and shipping label. Neither the bike shops nor we will coordinate or pay for individual shipping arrangements. You will also need to call the bike shop and coordinate the specific shipping procedures directly with them.

If you choose to ship your bike via UPS you can create a shipping label and documents online and provide them to the bike shop to be put on the shipping box, which will also help to ensure your bicycle gets shipped to the proper locations as fast as possible.
