Departing Early Using Local Public Transportation

When a rest stop is close to a local public transportation service that allows you to transport a fully assembled bicycle aboard (such as Metra and CTA L trains in the Chicago area) you will be able to leave the event from that rest stop location instead of the event ending location.

This service adds additional distance options to our events and if you know riding the entire distance would be too much to ride you will be able to only ride part of the route. It also adds timing options and improves the convenience of services and the safety of our events since you can finish your ride earlier, particularly if you encounter a mechanical or medical problem that prevents you from finishing and you don't want to wait for a SAG support vehicle to pick you up and transport you to the end. It also may allow you to get back to the start, the end, downtown Chicago, or even your home faster than our existing transportation service.

If a rest stop has a planned closing time, that time will be approximately thirty minutes earlier than the last supported public transportation schedule. That way you will have plenty of time to stop and replenish yourself with snacks and sports drinks at the rest stop location before going over to the station. This extra time also allows for unexpected problems you may run into on the road such as a flat tire or inclement weather conditions.

We will provide you a map and cue sheet to the nearest station and you will be able to easily walk or ride there from the rest stop. We will also provide you additional information about that transportation service such as the schedule, fares and pertinent station information. You will need to purchase your own fare yourself and we strongly recommend carrying enough cash with you to do so since we cannot lend you any fares. You will also need to walk or bike to the station yourself - we cannot transport you or your bike there in one of our support vehicles.
