POLICIES
AND PROCEDURES
Snacks
You won't have to worry about finding
food on the road, having enough money, or eating food that
is not the most appropriate
for cycling! All snacks and beverages are all you can eat,
included in registration, and available at every rest stop.
Imagine how much money you’d spend relying
on gas stations and convenience stores for your snacks
and sports drinks when a quart of sports drink can easily
be over $2 and a single candy bar over 80 cents. Plus,
the gas stations probably wouldn’t have fresh fruit
available and even if they did it probably wouldn’t be that
fresh. And that’s even if you can find a gas station
when and where you want it!
You will not need the rest stop attendant to actually serve
you anything at the rest stops. All snack items are either
prepackaged to prevent spoilage and food borne illnesses
or dispensed from bulk containers in the case of the bread,
peanut butter, and jelly. We designed it this way so that
if the rest stop attendant needs to perform SAG support on
the road the rest stop will be able to fully function without
him. Also, you can stock up and put most snack items in your
pocket for later on the
road!
While
all the snacks and sports drinks are all you can eat, we
ask that you please eat all you take in order to ensure their
availability for all participants.

item selection.
Protein
Sources
Protein will be available at every rest stop in the form
of peanuts in the trail mix and peanut butter and peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches. In addition our box lunches
contain will a protein source as well.
If you desire another protein source such as protein powder
for
your sports drink, protein bars, or beef jerky you will need
to provide it and carry it with you on the road yourself.
Salt
Sources
We also realize the importance of salt on the road. Salt
will be available through the pretzel varieties and trail
mix!
Peanut
Butter and Jelly Dispensers
We will have "peanut butter guns" to dispense
peanut butter. They operate just like a caulk gun where you
squeeze the handle and dispense peanut butter from the tip
(don’t worry this is a food safe piece of equipment,
we didn’t rig up a caulk gun or grease gun). Both types
of jelly will be dispensed from easily squeezable jelly containers.
You won’t get your hands messy from using tiny little
plastic knives to dig out the peanut butter or jelly out
of open jars, and you won’t have to worry about flies
or dirt or everyone else’s dirty hands getting into
jars either. We will also have small paper plates on which
to prepare your peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
Please do not use the tips of either container to spread
the peanut butter or jelly around on the bread to keep the
containers from getting messy. We will have plastic knives
available at every rest stop for you to spread your peanut
butter & jelly on your own sandwich. If the peanut butter
gun or jelly containers do get messy and need to be cleaned
please
inform
the rest
stop attendant and he will do so promptly.
Both the peanut butter gun and jelly dispensers will get
empty from time to time and the rest stop attendant will
regularly need to refill them. If a jelly squirter becomes
empty please do not throw it away because we refill the empty
squirter bottles from bulk jelly containers.
