Ice Water and Sports
Drinks
All you can drink ice water and sports drinks
will be available at every rest stop!
You will need to use your water bottle
to get sports drinks and ice water at all rest stops, including those in
our stopping towns. We will not have any cups stocked
at any rest stop locations.

more information regarding the reliability of our water supply in light of
the fact that a major Chicago running event was cancelled in 2007 halfway
through the event amid rumors of running out of water.
Ice Water
Ice can be a very valuable commodity on the road on a very hot day and running
out of ice can present a significant safety issue in the summer heat. All
participants will be relying on the availability of ice water
at the rest stops to cool themselves internally.
While
we will have plenty of ice water available and an
ample supply of ice, there will only be a limited amount
of ice and
if we run out we will need to go get more.
Ice can be very difficult to find at a location close to the rest stop and
can also be very expensive and having to get more ice takes up the time of
the rest stop attendant and inhibits his ability to provide other on road
support services.
Ice water must be conserved and used only for drinking purposes. If you
need to cool off do not pour ice water over your head or body. Instead,
we will have a hose with a spray nozzle set
up connected to a spigot at most
rest stops that you can use to spray yourself with that works
fantastic to cool off.
Due
to significant food safety concerns we cannot offer ice to any individual
participant
for
any reason, such as to put
in your individual
water bottle
or in
a plastic bag to use to cool off.
Sports Drinks
Our sports drinks are a proprietary blend of carbohydrates and electrolytes
and served in a concentrated syrup form for you to mix with ice water
in your water bottle.
We will have 3 different flavors available – lemonade,
fruit punch, and grape – so you won’t get tired of one
flavor of sports drink.
Because they are in a concentrated
form you can also mix your sports drinks as strong or weak as you desire.
Be careful when filling your water bottles with the concentrated sports
drink syrup so you don’t get squirted.
We will not add protein to our sports drinks because not everyone prefers
to have protein in their sports drink. If you wish to add protein into your
sports drink you can easily do so when you mix the sports drink syrup concentrate
with the ice water in your water bottle, but you will need to carry your
own protein supply with you on the road.
