Transportation Service from Champaign to Chicago After the End of the Event

Champaign Transportation Staging PointTransportation MeansChicago Transportation Staging Point

Our transportation service from Champaign to Chicago will occur after the end of the ride on Sunday evening.

  • Click Here for the overall policies and procedures that will apply to all of our transportation services.

Champaign Transportation Staging Point
Our transportation staging point after the end of the event will be directly at the central rest stop location. We felt this location would be better than at the Amtrak train and Greyhound bus station because the baggage loading has to be at the central rest stop location since our moving truck has to be there to transport your baggage since you will still have to pack your shower items back in your baggage after taking a shower. Otherwise you would also have to bike over to the Amtrak train station in your street clothes carrying your shower items with you on the bike.

Hotel Baggage Pick Up
If you are staying at the supported hotel and also taking our transportation service from Champaign to Chicago after the end of the event you should leave your packed baggage at the hotel front desk by check out time on Sunday morning and bike over to the central rest stop location. We will pick up your bags shortly after the check out time so you can have your shower items available after the ride without you having to carry them with you from the hotel yourself.

Showers
If you take a shower after the ride on Sunday, we will load your bicycle onto our moving truck while you take a shower. After you are done taking a shower you should walk back to the central rest stop location to pack your shower items. We will then load your fully packed baggage into our moving truck.

Transportation Means

People Transportation
All participants will travel from Champaign to Chicago aboard the 392 Illini Amtrak train that is scheduled to depart Champaign at 7:08 pm and arrive in Chicago at 9:45 pm, approximately a 2 hour and 37 minute ride. This schedule will give you plenty of time to get in a full day of riding on Sunday, take a shower, travel from the central rest stop location to the Amtrak train station in Champaign and from Champaign to Chicago, and be back home with plenty of time to rest for work on Monday morning the next day.

Registration for our transportation services does not include your individual train or bus ticket – you will need to purchase it on your own. We strongly recommend doing so NOW to avoid any potential availability issues.

  • Click Here for more information about the Champaign Amtrak train station.

Our transportation service after the end of the event can only support the 392 Illini Amtrak train schedule since we will only transport bicycles and baggage in one trip from Champaign to Chicago. If you depart Champaign on any train or bus schedule earlier than this train, you must pick up your bike and baggage when our moving truck arrives at the transportation staging point in Chicago (see below). We will not be able to return your bike and baggage to you at any other time and we can not hold on to them for you.

0.4 miles from the central rest stop location

In order to catch the bus you will need to walk 0.5 miles from the transportation staging point to the bus stop location at Vine St. and Fairlawn Dr. in Urbana and directions and a map will be provided. The trip takes approximately 21 minutes, the fare is $1.00 cash (paid on the bus), and the last bus departs the bus stop at about 5:46 pm which gives you plenty of time to take a shower after the end of the ride and arrive at the Amtrak train station in time to catch the 392 Illini train that departs at 7:08 pm.
