The city of Cairo will provide a uniformed police officer who will patrol our main lodging site on a regular basis throughout our stay.

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool open until 9:00 pm but no whirlpool, and does not have laundry machines available. You will need to contact the hotel on your own for best the room rates and to make and pay for your individual reservations. We strongly recommend making your reservation as soon as possible to avoid any availability issues from other participants or anyone else, secure the lowest rate, and assure yourself a room! If you are staying at the supported hotel you will need to come over to the main lodging site in time for the main check in and opening meeting. Swimming Pool
There is no public swimming pool in Cairo. If you want to use a swimming pool you will need to stay at the supported hotel. You will not be cycling into Cairo so you will not need to cool off or refresh from the previous ride.

A swimming pool will be available the next day in Carbondale.

Laundry
There is no laundromat in Cairo. You must plan on arriving at the start with enough clean clothes to be able to complete the next day's ride.

Hospital
There is no 24 hour hospital in Cairo. The nearest 24 hour hospital is in Sikeston, MO.

Medical support services for medical situations that require immediate attention will be provided by paramedics and an ambulance stationed directly within Cairo available at all times by calling 911.

A 24 hour hospital will be available the next day in Carbondale. Medical support services for medical situations that do not require immediate attention will be available after the ride there.

Amtrak Train Station and Greyhound Bus Station
There is no train or bus station in Cairo. If you want to arrive at the start of the tour via train or bus you will need to arrive in Carbondale and take the transportation service from Carbondale to Cairo before the start of the tour.

Parking
Parking will not be available in Cairo. This is because if fewer than five participants take the transportation service from Chicago to Carbondale after the end of the tour each participant will carry their bicycle and baggage directly with them aboard the Amtrak train. If a participant was to park their car in Cairo, they would need also to transport their bike there but the bus from Carbondale to Cairo cannot carry bikes aboard. Therefore we would have to both drive all the way from Chicago to Cairo to transport their bicycle on a separate vehicle and drive back up to Chicago which would make the cost for the transportation after the end of the tour significantly more expensive due to the cost of the gas and manpower involved.

If you want to park your car at the start of the tour you will need to park it at the Carbondale Amtrak train station and take the transportation service from Carbondale to Cairo before the start of the tour.
