Main Lodging and Dinner

You will be able to sleep in the air conditioned main building. The city of Cairo will provide a uniformed police officer who will patrol our main lodging site on a regular basis throughout our stay. Dinner Dinner will be catered at the main lodging site by Mitchell's Barbeque out of Tamms, IL.

Supported Hotel

Econolodge 310 South Story Street Charleston, MO 63834 (573) 683-2125 13.7 miles from the main lodging site All rooms: $59.49 plus tax The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool open until 9:00 pm but no whirlpool, and does not have laundry machines available. Call to make a reservation under the "Bicycle Illinois" room block. The room block will be held until June 23rd, 2010. Cairo Hotel Shuttle Service Because the supported hotel is not located within a reasonable cycling distance from the main lodging site, we will run a shuttle service between the the main lodging site and the supported hotel. The shuttle will depart the main lodging site soon after the conclusion of the opening meeting on Saturday night. You will not be able to bring your bicycle to the supported hotel with you, so you will need to prepare it for the next day's ride and leave it at the main lodging site that night. On Sunday morning, you will eat the continental breakfast at the supported hotel from 6:00 am to 6:30 am. The shuttle will depart the supported hotel promptly at 6:30 am and deliver you to the main lodging site where your bike will be waiting for you to begin the day's ride. Swimming Pool
There is no public swimming pool in Cairo. If you want to use a swimming pool you will need to stay at the supported hotel. You will not be cycling into Cairo so you will not need to cool off or refresh from the previous ride.

A swimming pool will be available the next day in Carbondale.

Bike Shop
There is no bike shop in Cairo. You should plan on arriving at the start of the event with all the bike parts, tools, and cycling accessories you need already and your bicycle in great mechanical working order and ready to be ridden on the next day's ride.

A bike shop will be available the next day in Carbondale.

Mechanical support services in Cairo will follow the same policies and procedures as our on road mechanical support services with the exception that the Cairo main lodging site will be the primary service location.

Participants Taking One of Our Transportation Services to Cairo
Since there is no bike shop in Cairo and the Carbondale bike shop is conveniently located directly across the street from the Amtrak train station you may be able to get any last minute bike parts, tools, cycling accessories, or repair services at the Carbondale bike shop while you are waiting to depart from Carbondale. However, we cannot guarantee that the Carbondale bike shop will have the specific part, tool, or cycling accessory you want or need or either be able to have the time to complete any repair services before we depart.

Laundry
There is no laundromat in Cairo. You must plan on arriving at the start with enough clean clothes to be able to complete the next day's ride.

A laundromat will be available the next day in Carbondale.

Grocery Store

SuperValu Foods 1908 Washington Ave. Cairo, IL 62914 (618) 734-0951 Hours: 8:00 am to 8:00 pm 1.7 miles from the main lodging site 3.5 miles from the supported hotel There is no 24-hour grocery store or Wal-Mart equivalent type store in Cairo. You should plan on arriving at the start with all the supplies you need. The nearest 24 hour Wal-Mart is in Sikeston, MO. A 24 hour grocery store will be available the next day in Carbondale.

Hospital
There is no 24 hour hospital in Cairo. The nearest 24 hour hospital is in Sikeston, MO.

Medical support services for medical situations that require immediate attention will be provided by paramedics and an ambulance stationed directly within Cairo available at all times by calling 911.

A 24 hour hospital will be available the next day in Carbondale. Medical support services for medical situations that do not require immediate attention will be available after the ride there.

Amtrak Train Station
There is no Amtrak train station in Cairo. If you want to arrive at the start of the event via Amtrak train you will need to use one of our transportation service options to Cairo.

Long Term Parking
Long Term Parking will not be available in Cairo. If you want to leave your car parked long term at the start of the event you will need to park it at the Carbondale Amtrak train station and take our transportation service from Carbondale to Cairo before the start of the event.

Greyhound Bus Station
There is no Greyhound bus station in Cairo. If you want to arrive at the start of the event via Greyhound you will need to arrive in Carbondale or one of our other stopping towns with Greyhound bus service and use one our transportation service options to Cairo.

There is no local bus service in Cairo. Your bike and your feet will be your only means of transportation. Cairo is a very small town though and all facilities and services listed on the in town cue sheets and maps are a reasonable distance to walk or cycle to.
