Amtrak Trains
Amtrak
trains serve Chicago, Carbondale, and every one of
our stopping towns in between
(Centralia,
Effingham,
Champaign,
and Kankakee). They run three
times
every day in
both directions and
will be our primary transportation provider
between all of our stopping
towns
Two of the three train services - the "Illini" and "Saluki" -
allow four unboxed, fully assembled bikes aboard each
train. The third train service - the "City of New
Orleans" - requires your bike to be boxed and
it
will be treated as a piece of checked baggage.
For the most current train schedules between Chicago
and Carbondale visit the "Timetables" page
on www.amtrak.com and
click on the schedule under "Illinois / Missouri
Services".

Greyhound Bus Service
Greyhound Bus service is available in Carbondale, Effingham, Kankakee, and Chicago
(not in Cairo or Centralia). Taking the Greyhound Bus may be a better alternative
for you than taking the
Amtrak
train
if your
final
destination
is somewhere not between
Chicago and Carbondale along the Amtrak route, such as Indianapolis or St.
Louis.
If you want to arrive at the start of the tour
via the Greyhound bus, you will need to arrive in
Carbondale and take our transportation service
from Carbondale to Cairo from the Carbondale Amtrak
train station.
