Pros and Cons
of Each Transportation Option
There are pros and cons for each transportation option. These
considerations are particularly important if you will be driving
a long way to get to the start of the event
Transportation Service to Carbondale and Cairo Before
the Start of the Event
You will not need to spend an extra day after the end of
the event for the return transportation service or arrange
or pay for a room at the Chicago hotel the previous night.
However
you
may need to drive to Chicago before the start of the event
and pay for long term parking in Chicago.
Transportation Service from Carbondale to Cairo Before
the Start of the Event
If you decide to initially meet us in Carbondale and
take the transportation service from Carbondale to Cairo
you will
not need to travel all the way to Cairo to get dropped
off (long term parking is not available in Cairo). However,
if you can get dropped off in Cairo you will eliminate
the risk of either missing us at the Carbondale Amtrak
train station or having to wait for us there if the train
is late. In addition you will also eliminate the extra
time and hassle of us loading and unloading your bicycle
and baggage
in
our moving truck and any potential damage from doing so.
Transportation from Chicago After the End of the
Event
If you decide to take either transportation service after
the end of the event you will need to either get dropped
off in Cairo before the start of the event (long term parking
is not available in Cairo) or drive to Carbondale and pay
for long term parking there and take the transportation
service from Carbondale to Cairo. However, you won't need
to drive to Chicago, take an extra day for transportation
after the end of the event, or arrange or pay for a room
at the Chicago hotel the previous night.
Mid-Route Pick Up/Drop Off
If you decide to do a mid-route pick up and drop off you
will not need to drive to Chicago or pay for long term
parking. However, you will need to take two days for transportation
both before the start and after the end of the event and
also pay for two separate transportation services. In addition
you will need to arrange lodging in the Chicago area.
