BICYCLE ILLINOIS
Amtrak Train Service (Partial Day Tours Only)

The Amtrak train service is the easiest transportation option to and from every stopping town if you are doing a partial day tour! Amtrak trains serve every one of our stopping towns between Chicago and Carbondale and service is available three times every day in both directions!

Two of the three train services - the "Illini" and "Saluki" - allow unboxed, fully assembled bikes on abord. There is an extra charge for your bike and you will need to get an extra ticket for it. Only 4 unassembled bikes are allowed per train so you should make your train reservations as early as possible.

The third train service - the "City of New Orleans" - requires your bike to be boxed and it will be treated as a piece of checked baggage. Getting your bike boxed for shipment can be done at all of our supported bike shops if necessary.

We cannot guarantee guarantee the available of spaces on any train for either you or your bike on any train so if you are planning on doing a partial day trip make sure to make your train reservations early!

We will not have the capability of transporting your bicycle and/or baggage between the Amtrak train station and the main lodging site or supported hotel. Safe cycling routes between the Amtrak train station, long term parking, main lodging site, and supported hotel are shown on the in-town cue sheets and maps and satellite imagery for each stopping town. In addition, you can arrange to use the shuttle service provided by Events Bike Ride Services - Click Here for more information. Alternatively, you could use alternate transportation such as local busses or a taxicab.
